What is suspension system, functions of suspension system |advantages and disadvantages.2021

Hey guys in this article we learn completely about the suspension system, and its parts, and also some factors of the suspension system. So let's begin.

What is Suspension system?

The suspension system is defined as a mechanical system consists of springs, shock absorbers, and leakages that connect the wheels and axles to the chassis of an automobile.

The suspension system separates the body of the automobile from the wheel and axle.
There are several types of suspension systems are used in automobiles like conventional suspension, independent front or rear suspension systems, Air suspension systems.

Main functions of the suspension system.

It will support the weight of the automobile.
It will always keep the tires in contact with the road surfaces.
It also prevents the automobile body and frame from road shocks.
To provide stability of the vehicle.
It will keep its good wheels in correct alignment.
The suspension system always provides a smooth and comfortable ride.
  1.  Springs
  2. The shock absorber or dampers.
  3. Spring shackles.
  4.  Wheels and axels.
  5. Stabilizers.
  6. Bearings.

Springs will provide to resist the shocks from sudden loads without transmitting the load to the body of the vehicle
It is also known as elastic resistance of the body.

Dampers will reduce the continuous bounce of up and down afterload on the spring is released.

 Factors of the suspension system.

In case automobiles move on the roads having a number of dips .this dips can be reduced, then provide a comfortable ride to the passengers. then follows compulsory given below these factors.
  1.  Sprung weight.
  2. Vertical load.
  3. Unsprung weight.
  4. Pitching.
  5. Brake dip.
  6. Rolling.
  7. Bouncing.

Sprung weight.

The weight of parts of the vehicle support on the springs is known as sprung weight.
For example weight of the frame, body and engine, goods e.t.c

Unsprung weight

The weight of the automobile that is not supported on the springs is known as unsprung weight.
Ex: weight of wheels, brakes, axels

Vertical load.
Weight of the goods and passengers along with self-weight
Of automobile is known as a vertical load.

Rolling.

It is defined as The vehicle will be rotated about the longitudinal axis known as rolling. In this rolling, the vehicle moves sideways or widthwise if you understood completely you can saw in the given below figure.

Pitching

Diagram of pitching

It is defined as the motion of the vehicle in the transverse axis only it is known as pitching. In pitching, the vehicle moves lengthwise between the front and rear axels.

Bouncing.

Bouncing diagram

It has the complete movement of the vehicle body in the vertical direction only is known as Bouncing. In this bouncing, the vehicle moves only height-wise.

Break dip:

Break dip

It is one of the factors in the suspension system it will the tendency of drive-in frontside on applying brakes is called Brake dip.
Brake dip is prevented by installing a wishbone suspension system.

Advantages of the suspension system

  1.  Its main advantage reduces the shocks and it will give passengers comfortable.
  2.  The noise of the suspension system was also reduced.
  3. It will be constructed easily.

Disadvantages.

  1.  The initial cost of the suspension system is high.
  2.  Maintaining the cost of the system also very high.
  3.  It occupies more space in the vehicle.
  4.  The life of the suspension system is small.

This is all about of suspension system we explained. but we couldn't explain various types of suspension systems in this article. if any doubts in this article plz comment thank you.
