History of Electrolux refrigerator

It is the most popular type of domestic absorption type refrigerator, this refrigerator was invented by 'Carl munters and Boltzer von platen' Studying at the royal institute of technology in Stockholm. It is a special form of ammonia absorption system in which the pump dispenses entirely. It has no moving parts.


Working principle..

Electrolux refrigerator works on the principle of three fluids. These fluids hydrogen, Ammonia, water.


  1. Hydrogen is the lightest gas. It is used in the low side of the system.This hydrogen's main purpose to evaporated the ammonia. hydrogen is not soluble in water.
  2. Ammonia acts as a refrigerant of the overall system. It has consisted of desirable properties.
  3. Water acts as an absorbent because it's the ability to absorb ammonia.

First of all the ammonia with water solution will be heated generator, and it will rise to the separator. Water is separated from the ammonia vapor flows down to the absorber, then ammonia vapor rises to the condenser. whenever the vapor to be rises to the condenser the condensate Ammonia flow-through liquid trap ( U- trap), in this, trap the un-condensed vapor is blocked in this U trap. Then the remaining Ammonia flows through evaporator coils. In this evaporator coils already some hydrogen present, and its entry into the condenser is prevented by the U trap. The mixture of ammonia and hydrogen flows to the absorber, In this absorber, the hydrogen raises to evaporator and ammonia solution.

Flows into generator through the heat exchanger. In this heat exchanger main purpose to exchange the heat from high temperature to low temperature. This cycle will be repeated continuously
.

Components of Electrolux refrigerator

#Heat exchanger

It is located b/w generator and absorber. Its main purpose reduces the cost of heating in the generator and the cost of cooling in the absorber.

It improves the effecincy of the overall system.

#Condenser

Its main purpose to decrease the heat from the refrigerant to the cooling medium ( water or air).
It is placed b/w the compressor and expansion valve.

#Evaporator

This device located b/w the absorber and trap tube.this device through which heat can pass from refrigerant space.

#Generator

It is similar to a boiler its main purpose to heat the ammonia and water solution with thig temperature.

  2. This system shouldn't use any pump or compressor so it has an absence of noise.
  3. The pump is also replaced with hydrogen which is cheap.
  4. Maintainance cost is very low, circulation of refrigerant is maintained by gravity.
